SCADA & IT Session
SCADA 201 for Water & Wastewater
“Just AutomateIT”
The BCWWA SCADA and IT Committee will hold a 1 day technical transfer program on April 29, 2009. This session is presented as the result of overwhelming response to last year’s SCADA 101 for Water and Wastewater technical transfer program.

What makes SCADA system tick? What are the basic components of a SCADA system? Does management realize the potential in this enabling technology infrastructure? What are other municipalities (by size) doing with their SCADA system? Are there ways to improve on your SCADA system through the application of new SCADA technologies? --- YOU BET!
This technical transfer session will discuss the basics of leveraging your SCADA system, available technologies, securities and productivities associated with SCADA systems. DO NOT MISS THIS EVENT!
WHO SHOULD ATTEND: engineers, engineering management, operations management, operators, technicians and technologists responsible for utilities, SCADA, IT, plant automation, plant operations/maintenance, system integration, technology evangelists.

Water Sustainability Session
"The Penticton Forum"
Smart Planning & Living Water Smart: Approaches and Tools for Doing Business Differently in BC
Organized by the BCWWA Water Sustainability Committee in collaboration with Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Community Development, Ministry of Agriculture & Lands, and Okanagan Basin Water Board
Visit the Waterbucket website for
additional information on this session.
Water Sustainability session will showcase a ‘regional team approach’ that builds commitment and establishes consistent expectations.
DESCRIPTION: Local governments convening for action in the Okanagan, on Vancouver Island and in Metro Vancouver. Each regional initiative is developing a vision and road map for doing business differently in order to change the way that land is developed and water is used.
The Water Sustainability Committee of the BC Water & Waste Association, three provincial Ministries (Environment, Community Development, and Agriculture & Lands), and the Okanagan Basin Water Board are hosting a forum on April 29 as one of the technical transfer sessions of the BCWWA Annual Conference. The "Penticton Forum" will tell the stories of what is already taking place on-the-ground in the Okanagan and Georgia basins; and will conclude with a blueprint for action. Energy Efficiency Session
Assess, Design and Implement a Pump Efficiency Program
in Partnership with BC Hydro
Organized by the BCWWA Utility Engagement Committee and BC Hydro.
DESCRIPTION: BC Hydro is looking at a number of ways to meet the increased demand for energy. Its goal is to have the most economical and environmentally friendly resource acquisition program in North America in the next five years. This will be done by meeting new demand requirements from a combination of Resource Smart, Power Smart, Green and Alternative Energy, and Customer Generation.
This technical season demonstrates how municipal infrastructure can take advantage of energy efficiency opportunities within their facilities, and how BC Hydro Power Smart can support them. The session will focus on an in-depth review of efficiency opportunities in municipal pumping systems by North American experts. This includes all pumps, including those within water booster stations, sewage lift stations, water and wastewater plants and aerators. The session will include case studies, and an overview of the BC Hydro Industrial Power Smart Program, and how municipalities can best take advantage of it.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND: Municipal administrators, municipal engineers, green infrastructure staff, design engineers, and operators.
