UTILITIES MAINTENANCE

 

 

The City of Courtenay has four vacant positions to fill within the Utilities section of the Transportation & Utilities Maintenance Division. These are regular full-time (40-hour workweek) union positions, available immediately.

Working as part of a cooperative team effort, and through the use of manual labour and powered equipment and tools, the incumbent operates, constructs and/or installs, inspects, maintains, cleans and repairs various components of the City’s water distribution, wastewater collection and storm drainage systems.

Utilities Maintenance – Sewer
Minimum qualifications include: Grade 12 or equivalency; Current Wastewater Collection Level I certification through Environmental Operators Certification Program (EOCP) (willingness to work towards obtaining Wastewater Collection Level II); Valid BC Class 3 Drivers License with Air Endorsement; Sound (3 years) experience working safely and effectively in the wastewater collection and storm water collection system(s), including hands on experience of installation, maintenance and repair of sewer main, storm mains, lift stations, pumps, manholes, and other related collection system components. Sound knowledge of proper public works construction and maintenance practices related to utilities infrastructure; Some experience in the safe operation of heavy equipment (Combination Sewer Cleaner/Hydro-Vac truck, Front End Loader, Dump Truck, etc) within the last three (3) years. The 2017 hourly wage rate is $31.46 plus EOCP Certificate bonuses.

Utilities Maintenance – Water
Minimum qualifications include: Grade 12 or equivalency; Current Water Distribution Level I certification through Environmental Operators Certification Program (EOCP) (willingness to work towards obtaining Water Distribution Level II); Valid BC Class 3 Drivers License with Air Endorsement; Sound (3 years) experience safely and effectively working in a water distribution system, including hands on experience of installation, maintenance and repair of water main, valves, hydrants, meters, and other related distribution system components. Sound knowledge of proper public works construction and maintenance practices related to utilities infrastructure; Some experience in the safe operation of heavy equipment (Front End Loader, Dump Truck, etc) within the last three (3) years. The 2017 hourly wage rate is $31.46 plus EOCP Certificate bonuses.

Certified operators possessing a higher EOCP certification in either the Water Distribution or Wastewater Collection classifications may be considered at a higher rate classification. In addition to the wage and bonus rates, a comprehensive benefit plan is offered.
