The District of West Vancouver (the District) is one of three municipalities that make up the North Shore, and is a member of the municipality of Metro Vancouver, the governing body of the Greater Vancouver Regional District.

Reporting to the Manager, Utilities at the District of West Vancouver the Superintendent, Utilities is accountable for ensuring the District has an effective sewage and drainage system, including a continuous supply of quality water for domestic, industrial and institutional use, and fire protection.

The Superintendent is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations, as well as the short and long term maintenance and upgrades of the District’s water and sewage distribution network, water and sewage treatment facilities and storm drainage systems, to best support the District and its stakeholders.

Key accountabilities for this role include:

  • Planning and organizing the operations of the Sewage and Drainage division
  • Providing direction to employees, crews and contractors by planning, assigning, and supervising work to ensure conformance to standards, specifications, and pertinent regulations
  • Providing information, consultation and resolution to the public on projects, issues and complaints
  • Initiating improvement in processes, methods and equipment
  • Assuring the optimum utilization of staffing resources through hiring, training, development, motivating and supportive leadership
  • Developing effective working relationships across the District, the public, external partners and special interest groups to work toward common goals

The successful candidate will possess a two-year diploma program certificate from an Institute of Technology in a related discipline and a minimum of five years experience with managing utilities systems and public works employees. Assets to the role include, proven supervisory experience and people management related training. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
