The City of Kimberley is looking for a proven leader to join our Waste Water Treatment Plant team. We are currently in the preliminary design phase of a new, state-of-the-art facility, and are in search of a dynamic individual to lead the operation of the current plant, as well as transition to the new plant in the future.


Reporting to the Manager of Operations – Utilities, the Chief Operator WWTP organizes, plans and directs the Waste Water Treatment Plant operation, following all processes and procedures as required by regulation. Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Prepare budget requests and reports.
  • Maintain pumps, valves, flow meters, safety equipment, aeration blowers, bar screen and other related equipment.
  • Operate and record data for government from site weather stations.
  • Check and clean sludge tanks, grit channels, weirs and all components of the WWTP with some exposure to non-buoyant conditions and UV disinfection.
  • Maintain records in regard to tests, flows and results, and all other records as required by regulation.
  • Maintain and operate chlorinator and de-chlorinator for sewage treatment.
  • Clean, paint and upkeep of WWTP work areas including some grounds maintenance.
  • Transport septic sludge to Regional landfill weekly or as needed.
  • Required to work scheduled and emergency overtime.
  • Provide guidance, direction and training to other workers at the WWTP.
  • Planning for the WWTP including but not limited to: yearly, monthly, weekly and daily maintenance, capital work, plant upkeep and system improvements.
  • May be required to work alone or in confined spaces. Must follow proper policy and procedures for work in confined spaces.
  • Check and service vehicle and equipment with fuel, oil, air, coolants and all other pertinent items; report any irregularities and fills out appropriate forms.
  • Keeps work area, vehicle and all equipment clean and ready for use.
  • Observes all safety precautions and requirements as required by WorkSafe BC, the City and other regulatory agencies.
  • Create and maintain a procedure manual as well as standard operating procedures (SOP’s) related to the operation of the WWTP.



Environmental Operator’s Certification Program (EOCP) certification in Wastewater Treatment Level 3, Chlorine Handlers course, Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License with air endorsement, Transportation of Dangerous Good certificate, WHMIS, Confined Space Entry trained.
