The BCWWA Annual Conference & Trade Show provides an opportunity for BC’s top operators to compete and share their skills and knowledge, and be recognized for their outstanding performance as water and wastewater professionals. The Operator Challenge will take place on Sunday, May 28 and Monday May 29, 2017.
Teams of three operators will compete in three round robin events on Sunday May 28 at the outdoor Crystal Garden Plaza.
Collection Pipe Event: The event simulates connecting a 4 inch PVC lateral sewer line to an existing 8 inch PVC sewer pipe.
Water Main Live Tapping Event: The event simulates a service connection onto a live water main.
Confined Space Entry - Chemical metering pump replacement: The event simulates flushing, removing and replacing a metering pump in a confined space.
The top three scoring teams will compete in a round of final Jeopardy, (also known as Top Ops) Monday May 29 on the Crystal Gardn main stage, answering questions related to EOCP standards and operating procedures, as well as WorkSafeBC regulations and practices.
Scoring will be based on timing and skills.
Interested in competing?
Submission to participate does not guarantee automatic entry to the Operator Challenge: Water Wars event. Participants will be contacted in early May, and those who are purchasing a full conference or one day pass are eligible for the early bird rate. Individuals who are only attending the competition can register for a free Trade Show Walk-In pass.
