As part of a multi-barrier approach to safeguarding public health and our drinking water, the BCWWA offers cross connection control (CCC) inspector certification.

WHAT IS A CCC INSPECTOR

While backflow assembly testers are certified to test backflow prevention assemblies, CCC inspectors are trained to identify new or existing cross connections within a facility by conducting a comprehensive cross connection risk assessment on drinking water supply systems. The work of a CCC inspector also involves reviewing plans, physically inspecting facilities for potential and actual cross connections, educating customers, and developing and enforcing municipal bylaws.

Although this certification is open to anyone, it is intended for the following professions and trades:

  • Backflow assembly testers
  • CCC educators
  • Plumbers
  • Technologists
  • CCC administrators
  • Building officials
  • Fire protection professionals
  • Engineers
  • CCC community program managers
  • Building inspectors
  • Sprinkler fitters
  • Water operators

HOW TO BECOME A BCWWA-CERTIFIED CCC INSPECTOR

  1. Find a BCWWA-accredited training institution offering the CCC inspector/surveyor course and register.
  2. Find a BCWWA CCC inspector certification exam and register ($129).
  3. Complete the course and exam, with a minimum passing score of 75% on both the written and practical components of the exam. An inspector certificate/wallet card will be issued by the BCWWA once you have passed the exam.

If you score below 75% on either component, you can retake one or both components of the exam at least thirty (30) days after your last attempt. If you do not pass both components of the exam by the second attempt, you must take the CCC inspector/surveyor certification course again. Once you have completed the course, you will be able to retake the full BCWWA CCC inspector certification exam.
