Please note: Travel time is included in the tour duration.
The tour will highlight several of the nine components of the Wastewater Treatment Project, from pump stations, force mains, residual conveyance and construction of the tertiary plant. This is a great opportunity to see the project in the building phase.
Safety Gear: Participants are required to wear CSA/Green Triangle approved footwear.
Pickup/Drop Off location: Meet in front of the Victoria Conference Centre (VCC) at the bus pickup zone. The bus pickup zone is located directly outside, to the right of the main VCC entrance on Douglas Street.
About the facility: The construction of the Wastewater Treatment Facility is scheduled to be completed by fall 2020. The project includes a 108 megalitre/day tertiary wastewater treatment plant at McLoughlin Point in Esquimalt to be operated by the CRD. The treatment plant is designed to minimize visual impacts from the water and includes a multi-level green roof, mature landscaping, observation deck, and multi-use education space.
Construction at McLoughlin Point will look similar to any large urban construction site. Construction works include: site preparation; horizontal directional drilling to construct the cross-harbour undersea pipe from Ogden Point to McLoughlin Point; pouring concrete foundations; exterior building construction and mechanical and electrical work inside the building.
